You upload your fillable PDF in the Studio. asksteps reads the form fields from the document and reports back what it found: number of pages, number of fields, and the type of each field.

The Form Is Generated Automatically
Every PDF page becomes a step in the form, every field becomes a matching input element. Text fields become text fields, checkboxes become toggles, dropdowns keep their options. Afterward, you can rename, reorder, set required fields, or remove fields in the Builder.

Publish Where Your Customers Are
You embed the finished form in your website with one line, via the WordPress plugin, or under your own subdomain. It's built for mobile devices and can take on your colors on request.

Download the Filled-Out Original PDF
As soon as someone submits the form, the submission appears in your inbox. From there, you download the original PDF with all the entered answers — the same document, the same layout, just filled out.

The signature area sits inside the form, drawn with a finger or a mouse. When downloaded, the drawing lands in the rectangle your document reserves for it, keeping its aspect ratio.

No Printing, No Scanning

Signature with a Finger
If your document includes a signature field, your customers sign directly on the screen. The signature lands in the designated rectangle of the PDF at the correct aspect ratio.

Frequently Asked Questions About PDF Forms
Which PDFs can asksteps read?
Fillable PDFs with classic form fields (AcroForm) — documents you can already type into on a computer. A PDF without form fields, such as a plain scan, is rejected on upload with a message; the same applies to purely dynamic XFA forms.
Does my document stay unchanged?
Yes. Your uploaded file is the template and is not modified. On download, a copy is generated with the answers entered into it. Fields no one filled out keep the value from the original.
Is the filled-out PDF stored?
No. It's only generated the moment you download it, and is not stored afterward. What is stored is the answers themselves — the document can be regenerated from them at any time.
What happens to read-only fields?
They're skipped and left untouched. They don't even show up in the generated form — pre-filled case numbers or master data shouldn't be overwritten by anyone.
Which plan includes PDF import?
From Professional onward (€49 per month, net) with five PDF forms, and 25 in Business. The signature element itself, on the other hand, is included in every plan, even the free one. During the 14-day trial the full Professional scope applies, so PDF import as well; the trial does not start by itself — you book it from your account, and afterwards the Starter plan applies, without PDF import.
Do I need someone from IT for this?
Not to create it — uploading and editing happens entirely in the Studio. To embed it in your website, you need one line of HTML; if you use WordPress, you install the plugin instead and add a shortcode.
