Signature

Signing happens on the screen. In the right field.

A signature field in the form, drawn with a finger or mouse. On download, the signature sits in exactly the spot of your PDF designated for it — fitted to the correct aspect ratio, not pasted somewhere at random.

The signature element is included in every plan, even the free one.

How It Works

How Signing Works

  1. 01

Add the Field to the Form

During PDF import, it's created automatically from an existing signature field. But you can also add it to any form or funnel yourself — even without a PDF.

  2. 02

    Have People Sign

Your customers draw on a surface in the form. With a finger on the phone, with the mouse on a computer; correcting and starting over is possible at any time.

  3. 03

    Send It Along

The drawing is transmitted as an image with the submission and matched to the correct field.

  4. 04

Find It Again in the PDF

On download, it's drawn into the rectangle of the signature field — at the correct aspect ratio, so it doesn't look stretched.

Signed right on the screen.

The signature area sits inside the form, drawn with a finger or a mouse. When downloaded, the drawing lands in the rectangle your document reserves for it, keeping its aspect ratio.

PDF Import

The file becomes a form. And becomes the file again.

asksteps reads the form fields from your PDF, builds the online form from it page by page, and writes the answers back into that exact document at the end. What you download is your original file — not a recreation that someone would have to approve all over again.

  • Text fields, checkboxes, dropdown lists, and signature fields are detected
  • One form step per PDF page
  • Read-only fields are left untouched

What the Signature Element Delivers

In Every Plan

Unlike PDF import, the signature isn't tied to a plan. You can use it in the free account.

Works Without a PDF Too

You don't need a document to collect a signature. Consent forms, handover records, or acknowledgments of receipt work as a plain web form too.

At the Designated Spot

The position comes from your document, not from a setting someone has to maintain. Change the template, and the signature moves with it.

Even in Protected Fields

If the signature field in the PDF is read-only, it's still drawn — the signature is page content, not a field value.

In Funnel and Form Alike

The same element is available in both delivery formats. You don't have to decide in advance.

Attachments Alongside

Wherever proof is needed next to the signature — ID, certificate, photo — both can be collected in the same submission.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions About the Signature

Is this a legally valid digital signature?

No, and that should be stated clearly: it's a drawn signature that gets added to the document as an image — under eIDAS, a simple electronic signature. For consent, confirmations, and internal processes, that's common and sufficient. Wherever the law requires written form or a qualified electronic signature, it is not one; that requires a certified trust service provider.

Is the document sealed against changes?

No. No cryptographic certificate is embedded, and the PDF is not locked against editing. If you need that, a signature service is the right path — the signature here doesn't replace it.

How does the signature get matched to the right field?

Through the stored connection between the form element and the PDF field. That's why it still ends up in the right place even after you've changed the label or translated the form.

Can you collect multiple signatures?

Yes, as long as your document has multiple signature fields — each gets its own area in the form. A sequential round-robin across several people isn't supported, though.

What happens if no one signs?

Then the spot in the PDF stays blank, as in the original. You can make the field required, though, in which case the submission won't go through without a signature.
